Dream It

We are Jana and Mark Hunter. We have a long history together, stemming back to some wild college days to exploration travels to more focused work related stints. As partners we’ve been through a lot together. Jana managed to survive a 10 year public school teaching career and Mark owns his own design and build remodeling company. While it can be challenging to do life and business together under stressful conditions we realize we both bring assets and skillsets to the table. If we lean on each other then we (can) actually be helpful to each other. So, here we are deciding to just go all in together and take the leap to satisfy our latest interest to open up a homewares shop!

Jana manages most of it and Mark fulfills many tasks behind the scenes, to say it in short. We hope to take you along on the journey of learning and growing and taking risks and following dreams, if you’ll join us!

Name It

Naming our shop was not an easy task. It had to mean something, it had to be simple, it had to be clear, it had to be interesting, it had to be connected. When listening to a podcast during the pandemic (yes, podcasts are our jam), the word ‘storied’ was used to describe an interior designer’s personal project. Of course we don’t remember who to give credit but the beautiful description captured our attention and we could feel it. The word just stuck over time - that word described everything we want life at home to be.

The word could certainly be applied to what we’re trying to portray with this shop as well. We are Storied, a homewares shop, curating sourced and made-in house treasures that will help you tell your story at home. We hope you’ll appreciate the classic materials, updated designs and heirloom quality. Our hope is that our objects lead to engrained, notable, and quite possibly legendary moments specific to friends and family that (hopefully) last forever.

We’ve come to understand that slowly adding special objects to our home often plays a part in our senses that help keep those memories alive. Goods that you take time to source, goods that present a unique shape, color, texture and function, goods that you save up to buy, goods that are functional yet beautiful, goods that are pre-loved, goods that will patina and last. Goods that just feel special.

We envision these covetable things bringing calmer moments of sipping espresso with your latest thoughts and a notepad, or reflecting on childhood when displaying a sentimental quilt, or reading a book over candlelight that empowers you to grow. Or perhaps throwing a spontaneous dinner party, or pouring a dangerous drink, or challenging one to bake off or dancing on a table, if you’re wild at heart. However you enjoy your time, whoever you enjoy it with, if our little corner shop of goods can contribute to a tiny glimpse of a memory in your life then we’re satisfied with our efforts.

We started with a webshop in Feb. 2023. The e-comm world is a whole beast that sucked some of the life out of our dream. We just didn’t understand how to grow without pumping a bunch of funds into a marketing agency or larger scale platform. And frankly, we thought Instagram would be our hero and word would easily spread that way. It didn’t so we adjusted and started showing up in face via pop ups around the city (a huge thank you to all our hosts for helping us get started). It was fun to get out and about in new scenes but it was crazy effort to curate a selection, pack it, set up, pack it back up and place back on the shelves again and again.

In August 2023 we were presented an opportunity to share a brick & mortar space with Everlast Window and Door Company. He wanted to downsize his showroom but still have an office. And we just wanted a space with a retail window (any size, any condition would do!). It turns out that it has been more than we’ve expected. Not only can we display product we also get to connect with the community. At first it was exhausting and honestly, a little challenging to transition from working from home mostly to showing face everyday. While it was an adjustment, it’s really the best part to get to know how you live in your homes, what events you’re going to, little tidbits about your lives and your names.

We hope you get to visit and experience a slice into our visual and design-y brains. We care a lot about which brands we support and the quality we can offer for your home.

Grow It

If you like to put faces to brands, this is us.

Grow It (future phase)

We hope to eventually expand. This would (hopefully) include a larger footprint, built-in casework, better shelving and a kitchenette. We would love to be able to host you as if you're guests in our own home, with food and drink, conversation, and of course, candlelight. Oh, and a stock room would be real handy too. In the meantime, we can all enjoy what exists currently while still thinking about the next.
